Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)

Precision offers weld procedure specification (WPS) tests to verify that a manufacturer is adequately qualified to perform welding operations using a particular procedure.

Welding procedures on table

In general, welding procedure tests reflect fabrication conditions in respect to welding equipment, weld preparation, preheating and any postweld heat treatment variable.

It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to establish and document whether a procedure is suitable for the particular application, but our laboratory can assist with the Weld Procedure Qualification Record (PQR or WPQR) required for quality assurance.

A PQR is a record of a test weld performed and tested to ensure that the procedure will produce a good weld. Individual welders are certified with a qualification test documented in a Welder Qualification Test Record (WQTR) that shows they have the ability to work within the specified WPS.

The test scope of the WPS test varies depending on the weld procedure, but it generally involves non-destructive and destructive testing.
